Building the Future of Cybersecurity Knowledge.

UNIFIED BODY OF KNOWLEDGE PROJECT hero image

ISC2 is building a shared foundation for the cybersecurity profession - shaped by what we know and strengthened by what we continue to learn.

In 2025, ISC2 members from around the world delivered a unified body of knowledge for the cybersecurity profession.

Cybersecurity evolves quickly. The ISC2 Cybersecurity Body of Knowledge (BoK) provides a trusted, practitioner-driven resource that captures both foundational principles and emerging developments across the profession.

Developed collaboratively by ISC2 members worldwide, the BoK represents a global effort to organize and maintain cybersecurity knowledge in one accessible place. Since 2025, more than 500 cybersecurity professionals across 50 countries have worked together to review and synthesize over 4,700 ISC2 knowledge articles into 11 learning domains.

The ISC2 Cybersecurity Body of Knowledge

When ISC2 was chartered in 1989, our founding members recognized the need for a shared cybersecurity body of knowledge. For decades, this knowledge has been reflected across the domains of ISC2 certifications, each maintained through a rigorous ANSI/ISO–aligned update cycle conducted every three years.

While certifications earned through high-stakes examinations remain central to the ISC2 mission, members have consistently asked for something more: a living resource that captures the broader knowledge, practices, and evolving ideas shaping the cybersecurity profession.

The ISC2 Cybersecurity Body of Knowledge (BoK) brings this vision together. It provides a unified knowledge environment that organizes practitioner insight, emerging concepts, and established best practices into a shared professional resource accessible to the global cybersecurity community.

We invite member volunteers to help refine and strengthen the 11 domains of the Cybersecurity Body of Knowledge (BoK).

If you are interested in volunteering, click here to review the role description and click “register interest” to fill out the volunteer interest form. We’ll be in touch from there.

Through facilitated workshops, participating members receive guided access to specific areas of the BoK and collaborate with peers to review content, identify emerging topics, and improve the clarity and accuracy of practitioner guidance.

Insights gathered from these sessions directly shape the evolution of the BoK, ensuring it reflects current cybersecurity practice and continues to serve as a trusted foundation for the global cybersecurity profession.
