Body of Knowledge Content Advisor

Body of Knowledge Content Advisors act as Contributors, Editors, and Content Reviewers, collaborating to review content for quality, accuracy, and clarity across multiple domains. This collaboration is essential to ensure a unified resource for certification candidates, members, and the cybersecurity community.

Purpose

This position plays a key role in helping ISC2 maintain a comprehensive Body of Knowledge that remains accurate, consistent, and aligned with editorial, industry, and technical standards.


Responsibilities

Body of Knowledge Content Advisors may contribute to some or all of the following areas, depending on availability and interest:

  • Contributor
    • Draft new Body of Knowledge content during workshops, including writing, examples, diagrams, images, and clarifications.
    • Prepare content for quality control (QC) review.
  • Editor
    • Review and revise existing Body of Knowledge content during workshops.
    • Ensure technical accuracy and validate cross-domain consistency.
    • Identify outdated or incorrect content.
    • Prepare content for quality control (QC) review and support errata validation.
  • Content Reviewer
    • Review content to prepare for platform ingestion. 
    • Ensure technical accuracy and content alignment.
    • Confirm cross-domain consistency across the Body of Knowledge.
    • Discuss findings and reach consensus with fellow Content Reviewers.

All Body of Knowledge Content Advisors regardless of placement will:

  • Follow ISC2’s guidance and adhere to the Body of Knowledge Style Guide.
  • Enforce tone, style, and formatting rules.
  • Ensure metadata and structural consistency for content.

Provide sources, citations and other evidentiary references where necessary.


Expectations

To promote meaningful collaboration and efficient use of time and resources, Body of Knowledge Content Advisors are expected to:

  • Attend and actively participate in scheduled virtual workshops of varying sizes.
  • Complete assigned work by requested deadlines.
  • Contribute thoughtfully and respectfully, representing the broader membership and profession rather than personal interests.
  • Exhibit integrity and professionalism in line with the ISC2 Volunteer Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate promptly and share availability preferences to help ISC2 effectively align work with individual capacity and coordinate scheduling.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Must hold an ISC2 certification and be a member in good standing.
  • Cybersecurity expert with a passion for writing and research.
  • Firm understanding of business-level English. This requires the ability to read, write, and speak in meetings on technical topics with other SMEs exclusively in English.
  • Passion for advancing the global cybersecurity profession through learning and development.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical and editorial standards.

Training

Some training may be required.


Travel Requirement

No travel is required.


Start/End Date

Workshop dates will vary throughout the year depending on the area(s) of focus. Schedules are coordinated and provided in advance.

CPE Credit(s)

CPEs will be issued based on attendance and work completed, in accordance with the ISC2 Certification Maintenance Policy and Handbook. A maximum of 21 CPEs can be earned per workshop.


CPE Submission Process

ISC2 will submit CPE credits on behalf of the volunteer.
