As an ISC2 Member and cybersecurity professional, you play a vital role in protecting the systems, data and people that keep organizations and communities running. Every day, you help defend against threats, respond to incidents and strengthen resilience in a world shaped by constant change, from regulatory updates to evolving frameworks and emerging technologies. In a field this dynamic, your knowledge, skills and abilities continue to grow through real-world experience and the work you do every day.

From hands-on work on the job to attending events and keeping up with industry news, you are learning continuously and staying relevant as the profession and your role evolves. That makes continuing education a natural extension of the work you are already doing—not just a requirement to check off. As you grow your expertise and adapt to new challenges, earning Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits becomes part of that growth.

Recent ISC2 CPE Opportunities

As an ISC2 Member, you can access many of these for free including a selection of complimentary Express Courses, ISC2 Spotlight virtual events, ISC2 webinars and more – all of which earn you CPE credits. Members and Associates of ISC2 also have access to exclusive savings and discounts on many more trainings and events, including the largest CPE opportunity of the year, ISC2 Security Congress now at it’s lowest price with early registration.

How do I know where I stand with my ISC2 CPEs?

To maintain your ISC2 certification, you need to earn CPE credits throughout your three-year certification cycle and submit them through the CPE portal. ISC2 recommends a yearly target to help you stay on track, but unless you are an Associate of ISC2, there is no annual requirement.

This quick CPE Credits Guide (Chinese | Japanese | German| Spanish) provides a high-level outline of those needed for each step of your journey. You can check your current status at any time on your ISC2 Dashboard, where you’ll find your latest CPE count and helpful resources all in one place.

Checking and Recording ISC2 CPE Credits

ISC2’s Certification Maintenance Handbook (Chinese | Japanese | German | Spanish) outlines opportunities in more detail, including the often asked question, “What’s the difference between Group A and Group B?”

  • Group A Credits are domain-related activities. These relate directly to the specific domains of the certification(s) you hold. Examples include:
    • Educational opportunities such as courses, events or certification training
    • Webinars, podcasts, articles or books on cybersecurity topics
    • Self-study related to research for a project or volunteering for security-related activities
  • Group B Credits are professional development activities. They are earned through enhancing your overall professional skills, education, knowledge or competency outside of your certification’s domains. This can include:
    • Professional speaking training
    • General management courses

Note: Group B CPE credits are not applicable to Associates and CC certification holders.

You are already building your knowledge and earning CPE credits as you go, so be sure to log them in the ISC2 CPE portal regularly to avoid a rush at the end of your cycle.
