In February of 2023, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that the new DoD Directive 8140 would “provide a targeted, role-based approach to identify, develop, and qualify cyber personnel by leveraging the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF).”
We are excited to report that all nine ISC2 cybersecurity certifications and their corresponding trainings can be found as approved under the current 8140 Cyber Workforce Qualification Provider Marketplace.
According to John Sherman, DoD CIO, in his April 2021 testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee, the directive “will require workforce members to demonstrate a foundational understanding at the work role level while also addressing personnel capability and continuous professional development at the work role level.”
The 8140 Marketplace details qualifications for work roles in cybersecurity, cyber enablers and Information Technology (IT). ISC2 certifications and corresponding trainings qualify for 87% of work roles in the marketplace – more than any other cybersecurity certification provider.
Conversations first began around 8570 being replaced by a new version of the directive back in 2020. Our teams – both on the qualifications side of our organization, and on the educational side – got to work ensuring that all of our offerings meet the highest standards in the marketplace. Since the start of the CISSP back in 1994, many ISC2-certified members have found employment within the U.S. DoD or other areas of the government and military. The teams worked to ensure that your credentials, and training, maintained their recognition in the new DoD directive.
ISC2 Recognition
All ISC2 certifications have accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), and ISC2 is the first information security certifying body to meet the requirements of ANAB ISO/IEC Standard 17024. This inclusion in the 8140 marketplace is another feather in the cap of the credentials that you, as an ISC2 member, have earned.
As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the CISSP, we have spent time reflecting on, and celebrating, the recognition and awards that the credential has earned over the year. Many members have chimed in to share how the CISSP changed their careers. You can hear more CISSP stories on LinkedIn searching #CISSP30.
