ISC2 Standards Development Consensus Body Member
Purpose
The purpose of a Consensus Body Member is to ensure that standards developed through the ISC2 Standards Development Program are fair, balanced, and representative of diverse stakeholder interests. By contributing technical insight, thoughtful review, and informed voting, members uphold the integrity of the consensus process and help produce standards that are credible, relevant, and widely applicable.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate draft standards, revisions and other relevant materials
- Ensure that the perspectives of materially affected stakeholders are considered
- Participate in consensus-building and formal decision-making
- Vote on key actions (e.g., draft approval, public review, final approval)
- Submit, consider, and resolve comments in coordination with Working Groups
- Adhere to ANSI Essential Requirements and ISC2 Standards Development procedures

- Act in accordance with standards development principles of openness, balance, due process, and consensus
- Represent a stakeholder perspective broadly and impartially, remaining objective and avoiding individual or organizational interests
- Engage and participate throughout the standards development lifecycle
- Maintain professionalism, respect, and collaboration when engaging with other participants
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest and follow any mitigation actions if applicable
- Support the integrity and credibility of the program by contributing to transparent and defensible outcomes

Qualifications/Skills Required
- Working knowledge or strong interest in cybersecurity, risk management, or related disciplines
- Effective written communication skills and ability to analyze technical or policy-oriented content to provide clear, constructive feedback
- Strong critical thinking and sound judgment in evaluating complex or competing viewpoints
- Collaboration skills and ability to engage respectfully in diverse, cross-functional groups
- Time management skills to meet program scheduling and deadlines
- Familiarity with standards development, governance frameworks, or consensus-based processes (preferred but not required)

Volunteer service may be eligible for CPE credit, subject to the requirements of the volunteer’s accrediting or credentialing body.
CPE Submission Process
Volunteers are responsible for tracking their participation and submitting any required documentation directly to their accrediting or credentialing body for CPE consideration.
