The AI era isn’t slowing down and neither is ISC2. We are rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on something big, working hand-in-hand with you to develop a new AI security certification. The journey is already underway with more than 3,000 cybersecurity professionals, AI regulators and risk leaders ready to collaborate to standardize the knowledge, skills and abilities required to secure AI systems, manage AI threats and mitigate AI risk. In-person global workshops kick off this August when experts will gather at sessions in Alexandria, VA, London and Singapore. In this first phase, global volunteers will help shape the standards, domains and disciplines of the certification framework.

Global Participation – Initial Workshop Goals

These first workshops mark an important step in building a trusted, vendor-neutral AI security standard created by and for cybersecurity professionals. Through facilitated discussions and breakout sessions, participants will bring real-world experience to the table, sharing how they are securing AI and machine learning systems, managing emerging risks and applying proven cybersecurity principles in a fast-changing AI landscape.

Together, participants will help define the core knowledge, skills, abilities, tasks and responsibilities professionals need to secure AI systems with confidence. Conversations will explore key areas such as risk management, secure-by-design practices, data protection and governance, as well as emerging threats like prompt injection, data poisoning, model extraction and excessive agency. Their insights will help ensure the certification blueprint reflects the practical realities cybersecurity professionals face today and the expertise they will need for the future.

How will Cybersecurity and IT Professionals Build an AI Certification?

The introductory workshop series will continue through all three phases — definition, development and delivery — with multiple opportunities for volunteers to engage at different levels, from completing surveys and joining workshops to eventually sitting for the pilot exam.

Following the definition phase, ISC2 will move into development, where member volunteers from around the world will help create and review exam questions that validate the knowledge, skills and abilities identified during the workshops. The final phase, delivery, will include pilot testing and analysis to ensure the exam accurately measures the competencies needed to work with and secure AI technologies. If the pilot is successful, the AI Security Certification will become part of ISC2’s certification portfolio, helping professionals demonstrate their expertise in this rapidly evolving field.
