Our month-long program of AI coverage includes advice and perspectives from ISC2 Members dealing with the intersection of AI and cybersecurity operations, new research looking at the impact of AI tools and technology on roles, along with insights from our two-day virtual Spotlight event.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly moving from emerging technology to operational reality. Across every sector, organizations are investing in AI-powered tools to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making and unlock new opportunities for innovation. At the same time, cybercriminals are exploiting many of the same capabilities to increase the sophistication, speed and scale of their attacks. For cybersecurity professionals, AI represents both a powerful ally and a rapidly evolving challenge.
This duality makes AI one of the most significant issues facing the cybersecurity profession today. While much of the public and mainstream media conversation has focused on whether AI will replace jobs, the more pressing question for cybersecurity leaders is how it will reshape them. As organizations integrate AI into their security operations, governance processes and business functions, the knowledge, skills and responsibilities expected of cybersecurity professionals are evolving alongside the technology itself.
A Month-Long AI Focus, Shaped by ISC2 Members for ISC2 Members
Over the coming month, ISC2 will explore this transformation through the lens of the cybersecurity profession, with a series of articles from ISC2 Members, alongside other subject matter experts, examining the opportunities, risks and practical implications of AI for the cybersecurity profession.
Together, these features will consider how AI is influencing security operations, governance, workforce development, secure software development, cyber resilience and professional practice. They will also examine the challenges organizations face in adopting AI responsibly, including issues surrounding trust, transparency, regulation and human oversight.
Research Perspectives
At the center of this series is new ISC2 research examining how the rapid adoption of AI is reshaping cybersecurity roles and responsibilities. Drawing on the experiences and perspectives of over 850 cybersecurity professionals from around the world, the research explores how AI is changing day-to-day activities, which skills are becoming increasingly valuable, where practitioners believe human expertise will remain indispensable and how AI is affecting workplace stress through disruptive change. It also considers how organizations are adapting their teams and preparing for a future in which AI becomes an integral component of cybersecurity operations.
As with previous technological shifts, AI is unlikely to diminish the importance of cybersecurity professionals. Instead, it is poised to redefine many aspects of established cybersecurity roles, creating new opportunities while introducing new responsibilities. Understanding that evolution—and preparing for it—will be essential for cybersecurity leaders, practitioners, entry-level professionals and organizations alike. We invite you to join us throughout the month as we examine what the age of AI means for the future of cybersecurity.
ISC2 Spotlight on Artificial IntelligenceCentral to the focus of AI Month is recognizing the extent to which AI is reshaping cybersecurity, doing so at unprecedented speed.
