Dominique DeVaux Jeffords, CC, first started with T-Mobile selling phones and now, almost 20 years later, works to build a team to support cyber resiliency as Senior Manager of Cyber Resiliency and Portfolio Management. Moving up to a leadership role demanded new expertise, so she pursued Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certification.
She leveraged ISC2 training and study resources to build her knowledge. “It gave me a really great foundational baseline to understand the different domains in cybersecurity,” she says. “CC certification helped me understand better how we can identify, mitigate and prevent threats in the future.”
Investing in People for Stronger Security
T-Mobile assesses for skills across the organization so that every person gets the training they need to succeed going forward.
Employees are incentivized to pursue professional development and advanced certifications like Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). The company hosts annual bootcamps for a cohort of team members to help them complete their CISSP certification and further their technical knowledge in cybersecurity.
“We are very passionate about continuous learning,” DeVaux Jeffords says. “It is invaluable in helping to understand how we can protect our company and our customers.”
Her advice to team leaders in any industry: “Encourage your people to continue learning. Do not stay stagnant in your knowledge.”
