Congressman Cedric Richmond to Open (ISC)² Cybersecurity Conference
Ranking member of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee to address more than 2,000 security professionals at New Orleans event
Clearwater, FL, June 13, 2018 – (ISC)² – the world’s largest nonprofit association of certified cybersecurity professionals – today announced the first keynote speaker for its 2018 Security Congress, Congressman Cedric Richmond.
This year’s Security Congress will be held in New Orleans, the hometown of Congressman Richmond, who has represented Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives since 2011. Congressman Richmond currently serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security and is the ranking member of the committee’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee. He is also a member of several other Homeland Security subcommittees including: Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations; Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet; and Oversight and Management Efficiency. He is also Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
“Congressman Richmond is a leading advocate for the development of the cybersecurity workforce and understands how vital the federal government’s security posture is to our national security, economy and critical infrastructure,” said Brian Correia, managing director, North America, (ISC)². “As a U.S. representative, and New Orleans native, who works to create our nation’s cybersecurity policy and legislation, we look forward to Congressman Richmond sharing his insight and experience with our attendees.”
“In order to defend our networks from cyberattacks, we need a diverse and robust workforce,” said Congressman Richmond. “With robust support and access professionals with non-technical backgrounds can gain technical skills through on-the-job training, industry certifications, community college courses, and modern vocational programs.”
Congressman Richmond will be the keynote speaker on the first of three days of sessions at this year’s Security Congress. The conference will be attended by more than 2,000 professionals and will feature more than 100 educational and thought-leadership sessions, including workshops, panel discussions, research presentations and case studies. Since 2011, (ISC)² has hosted this annual conference around the United States, with this year’s event taking place from October 8-10 at the New Orleans Marriott.
