(ISC)² Names University of Waikato New Official Training Provider to Promote Cybersecurity Education in New Zealand

Registration opens for first Official CISSP CBK Training Seminar in Wellington in April 2018

Hong Kong/Hamilton – Mar. 6, 2018 – (ISC)²® today named the University of Waikato, a leading New Zealand tertiary education provider, an (ISC)² Official Training Provider (OTP) to offer official (ISC)² cybersecurity education to certification candidates in New Zealand. The first official (ISC)² CBK® Training Seminar for the Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP®) will be held on April 30, 2018 in Wellington at the Evidence Based Policing Centre on Lambton Quay.

“The University of Waikato will be the first (ISC)2 OTP in New Zealand, which will be a milestone for the information security community here,” said associate professor Ryan Ko, director of the University of Waikato’s New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science. “Our goal is to address the current skills shortage by allowing existing IT professionals to retrain as cybersecurity professionals through the internationally-renowned (ISC)2 certifications such as the CISSP. This will enhance our ability to train future leaders in combating cybersecurity.”

“Technology alone cannot solve our security challenges, and we face a global cybersecurity workforce shortage,” says Clayton Jones, managing director, Asia-Pacific, (ISC)². “Working with academic institutions like the University of Waikato, (ISC)2 is committed to educating and nurturing the cybersecurity talent we need to solve our biggest security challenges. We are delighted to partner with UoW to help bring our education programs to New Zealand and contribute to the development of a skilled pool of cybersecurity professionals that meets the growing needs of both government and industry.”

University of Waikato is the primary research partner for the New Zealand Police, and established the New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science (NZISCS) in 2017. As an (ISC)² OTP, University of Waikato will offer official (ISC)² CBK Training Seminars to cybersecurity professionals. The first two certifications that will be offered are the CISSP and Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP®).

The CCSP credential is appropriate for professionals with deep-seated knowledge and competency derived from hands-on experience with information security and cloud computing. The CISSP certification is ideal for security practitioners, managers and executives interested in proving their knowledge across a wide array of security practices and principles. All courses will be led by (ISC)²-certified members of the New Zealand chapter who have gone through a qualification process to become an (ISC)2-authorized instructor.
