London, 30 November 2017: (ISC)² – the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified cyber, information, software and infrastructure security professionals – has revealed that Artificial Intelligence, future IOT legislation and the state of compliance with GDPR will be among a range of issues to be explored at the upcoming Secure Summit UK in London, taking place 12th-13th December 2017.
The two-day event is set to feature sessions examining the role of AI in the future of cybercrime, GDPR and the rise of politically-sanctioned hacking, from a speaker line-up that includes Paul Taylor, Partner at KPMG and Mark Stokes, Head of Digital Forensics at the Met Police.
In the wake of the attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear plants, the Summit also includes a session examining cybersecurity in industrial control systems by Cevn Vibert, who has worked on cybersecurity projects with clients including Thames Water, Network Rail and Sellafield.
It will also offer a window into the future of cybercrime with a session on the role of AI in online criminal activity and a revealing presentation on the evolution of digital forensics by Mark Stokes, Metropolitan Police Head of Digital & Electronics Forensic Services, which undertakes 15,000 digital forensics investigations a year.
With the full implementation of GDPR just months away, over 100 of the attendees will participate in a workshop aimed at charting cybersecurity professionals’ experiences on the road to implementation of GDPR, led by David Higgins and Yves Le Roux, whose combined experience covers work for both the UK and French governments and major corporations, including Rothschild.
Other confirmed keynote speakers include Ken Munro, Founder of Pen Test Partners Ltd, James Packer, Cybersecurity and Cloud Specialist at KPMG and Joe Hancock, Cybersecurity Lead at renowned law firm Mishcon de Reya.
In addition to focusing on technical and legal implications of security, attendees will be attending a workshop on Security Awareness, Behaviour and Culture, learning how to educate the biggest component of cybersecurity – people.
Dr. Adrian Davis, Managing Director for EMEA at (ISC)² outlines the purpose of the Summit:
“As the world’s largest body of cybersecurity professionals, we have a significant opportunity and a responsibility to bring together cross-sector, front-line cybersecurity expertise, spanning governments, multinational companies, academia and those at the forefront of law enforcement to shine a light on the very latest threats and trends within our digital economy. Our summits draw on a unique breadth of talent and experience to inform policies and help businesses and governments alike contend with the major issues of our time, while looking forward to the future."
Secure Summit UK is the last of five Secure Summits, a series of two-day events hosted by (ISC)² within the EMEA region this year. Each event features varied sessions designed to showcase a range of perspectives and levels of practice, including hands-on cyber workshops to keynotes and panels with technology industry leaders tasked with protecting banks, governments and multinationals.

(ISC)² EMEA ISLA Awards:
A highlight for Secure Summit UK will be the first-ever (ISC)² EMEA Information Security Leadership Awards (ISLA), which showcases industry leaders from around the region who were nominated for going above and beyond the call of duty at work or in their communities, to enhance security practice across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The awards are an illustration of the impact being made by the profession by honouring outstanding cybersecurity professionals in the categories of: Senior Information Security Professional, Information Security Practitioner, Up-and-Coming Information Security Professional, and Woman Information Security Professional. Finalists include Melanie Oldham, who chairs a Cyber Security Cluster boosting Yorkshire’s cyber industry and created the pioneering ‘Think Before You Click’ campaign, that helped businesses prevent phishing attacks; and Bridget Kenyon, who helped combat a major ransomware attack on University College London (UCL) earlier this year.
The awards ceremony will be live-streamed via the official (ISC)² Twitter account and Periscope, using the hashtag #ISC2Summits, at 16.20 – 16.45 GMT, Tuesday, 12th December 2017.
