With new research, member voices, AI Appreciation Day to the ISC2 Spotlight on AI, July will provide you with new perspectives on the growth, benefits and impact of AI on cybersecurity professionals and the organizations they support.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping the way we approach cybersecurity – not just by enhancing and accelerating how we detect and respond to threats, but also by shifting strategies, skillsets, and threat landscapes. Organizations are enthusiastic about AI’s potential – but they’re also increasingly concerned about its risks, both strategic and operational.

Data from McKinsey supports this, suggesting that organizations are working to mitigate a variety of AI-related business risks including cybersecurity risks (40% of McKinsey study respondents), regulatory compliance risks (30%), privacy issues (27%) and workforce displacement (7%).

Across July, ISC2 Insights will be exploring the world of AI as it relates to cybersecurity. We will be looking at a variety of technology issues and lessons-learned through articles created by ISC2 members, sharing insights from recent and up-coming events, along with sharing new research on the adoption and impact of AI tools within cybersecurity teams, as well as the impact on training and hiring priorities.

Research First Look

We will be sharing our full research report on July 16, to coincide with AI Appreciation Day. The findings shine a light on the impact of AI cybersecurity tool adoption on cybersecurity teams as well as organizations as a whole. The data also provides valuable insights into skills development and training priorities, as well as looking at how AI is – and is expected to – impact team composition and hiring priorities.

The research showed us that network monitoring and intrusion detection, along with endpoint protection and vulnerability management are the top three areas where AI security tools are having the most positive impact in organizations.

ISC2 Spotlight on AI

Join us on July 8-9 online for a free ISC2 Spotlight event exclusively for ISC2 members, candidates and associates. Across the two-day virtual event, we will explore the rapidly evolving intersection of AI and cybersecurity, diving into the opportunities and challenges AI presents in the realm of data security.

We’ll discuss the ethical considerations surrounding AI usage, its impact on data privacy and emerging applications of AI in cybersecurity. We’ll also examine how ethical and malicious actors are leveraging AI, with a focus on risk management, AI-driven defense and the latest strategies to stay ahead of cyberthreats.

The full event agenda can be found here. ISC2 members, candidates and associates can register to attend here.

Securing AI Workshop

The next virtual ISC2 AI workshop takes place on July 22-23, led by ISC2 facilitator Dennis Lee. During the workshop we will explore strategies to maximize the power of AI while managing the risks. We’ll take a dive deep into securing the deployment of AI and identify how it uses data through a practical risk management lens.

On completion, you will be equipped with knowledge and actionable insights that will support you to:

  • Develop an AI security roadmap that leverages the benefits of AI while acknowledging the threats it presents to your organization
  • Ensure your organization’s AI practices are aligned with established risk management and emerging industry best practices
  • Implement security access to the AI lifecycle using secure by design and default principles

ISC2 AI Workshops are aimed at mid- and senior-level cybersecurity professionals with five or more years of experience and those in positions requiring a strategic understanding of AI. More information and registration can be found here.
