With over two decades of experience as a technologist and cybersecurity advisor, I’ve always believed that protecting digital ecosystems goes far beyond technical controls. It’s about mindset, leadership and business alignment.

After earning my MBA in IT and Finance from FMS Delhi, I worked across several strategic technology roles, where I supported enterprises in navigating digital transformation and risk. As cybersecurity threats became more sophisticated and business stakes grew higher, I realized I needed a holistic foundation to elevate my practice.

That’s when I turned to the CISSP certification.

The Turning Point

My decision to pursue the CISSP certification wasn’t made overnight. I had been supporting CISOs, designing enterprise security architectures and leading transformation programs – but I needed a common language. CISSP offered a globally recognized framework that connected policy, architecture, engineering and operations into one integrated view of cybersecurity.

Studying for the CISSP while managing global projects was intense, but deeply rewarding. The breadth of the Common Body of Knowledge pushed me to think critically and strategically. Every domain offered a fresh lens: from identity and cryptography to software development and business continuity. Passing the exam was a defining moment - a formal recognition of years of practical experience and a new chapter in my journey as a security leader.

Beyond the Certification

What began with the CISSP soon inspired me to go deeper. With the rise of cloud-native ecosystems and hybrid architectures, I pursued and earned the CCSP to strengthen my expertise in cloud security, a domain now central to every enterprise’s digital journey.

Together, the CISSP and CCSP give me both depth and breadth, enabling me to lead with confidence, whether building zero trust strategies, modernizing IAM, or driving security tool consolidation. These credentials, along with my MBA, allow me to bridge technology and business in a way that resonates with executive leadership.

Giving Back to the Community

Being part of the ISC2 community has also significantly enhanced my professional journey, offering opportunities for continuous growth and global collaboration. The CISSP, in particular, reinforces the importance of ongoing development and staying connected in a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.

Through ISC2, I’ve engaged with a global network of experts, gaining valuable insights into emerging threats and industry trends. Their continuing education programs, webinars, and events have helped me stay sharp and forward-thinking in my role as a cybersecurity leader.

I’ve had the privilege of contributing to ISC2 initiatives like the three-day CISSP Group Review workshop and the Content Advisory Panel, where I’ve worked with peers to review and enhance certification content. I was also honored to serve as a judge for the ISC2 and Samantha Jennings-Jones Women’s Cybersecurity Scholarships, helping support rising talent in the field.

Mentoring aspiring CISSPs has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey. Helping others navigate their path, sharing real-world insights, and watching them succeed has brought personal meaning to the professional impact of this certification.

A Platform for Purpose

The CISSP community has become a platform for continuous growth, collaboration and advocacy. It’s more than a badge - it’s a commitment to staying ahead of threats, to learning continuously and to upholding a higher standard for the profession.

Today, I lead cybersecurity engagements for Fortune 200 clients, helping them build resilient digital ecosystems. While certifications are only part of the story, the CISSP was – and continues to be – a powerful chapter in mine.

Advice for CISSP Aspirants

If you’re considering the CISSP, here’s my advice: don’t treat it as a checkbox. Treat it as a mindset shift. Let it deepen your understanding, broaden your thinking and inspire you to lead with purpose.

Pace yourself. Understand each domain conceptually, not just contextually. Most importantly, find joy in the process. Cybersecurity, at its core, is about protecting people, ideas and futures. There’s no greater calling than that.

“Cybersecurity is not just about defending against threats - it's about building trust, enabling innovation, and leading with purpose.”
