ISC2 launches AI-based adaptive training for practitioners responsible for implementing, monitoring and administering IT infrastructure
Alexandria, Va., September 17, 2024 ISC2 – the world’s leading nonprofit member organization for cybersecurity professionals – today announced the update to the Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) credential exam, as well as the launch of Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Self-Paced Training using adaptive learning technology. The AI-based training is built for a personalized learning experience to guide each participant along a pathway tailored to their individual needs based on prior knowledge, learning speed and confidence levels.
The SSCP credential exam content was recently updated as part of the rigorous, methodical process that ISC2 follows to routinely update its credential exams. Earning the credential requires passing the exam, and demonstrating at least one year of relevant work experience in one of the seven domains of the credential, which are:
- Security Concepts and Practices
- Access Controls
- Risk Identification, Monitoring, and Analysis
- Incident Response and Recovery
- Cryptography
- Network and Communications Security
- Systems and Application Security
From IT to Cybersecurity
The SSCP credential validates that practitioners have the advanced technical skills and knowledge to implement, monitor and administer IT infrastructure using security best practices, policies and procedures established by the cybersecurity experts at ISC2.
This credential is ideal for IT administrators, managers, directors and network security professionals responsible for the hands-on operational security of their organization’s critical assets, including those in the following positions:
- Systems Administrator
- Security Analyst
- Systems/Network Analyst
- Database Administrator
The SSCP certification and its ISC2 official training are approved for a combined 36 work roles (66.7%) in the new U.S. Department of Defense 8140 Cyber Workforce Qualification Provider Marketplace, including:
- Cyber Defense Analyst
- Secure Software Assessor
- IT Project Manager
- Vulnerability Assessment Analyst
According to the latest ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, SSCP holders were most often found working in the following industries:
- Financial Services - 8%
- IT Services – Managed Service Providers (MSP) - 7%
- Federal Governmental (non-military) - 7%
- Consulting - 7%
“The SSCP certification has a strong focus on the technical aspects of cybersecurity,” said Dr. Casey Marks, Chief Qualifications Officer of ISC2.
“These practitioners are working day in and day out in the SOC, reviewing incident logs, and ultimately are the frontline defense keeping their organizations secure.”
The SSCP is the second certification created by ISC2, following the flagship CISSP credential celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Launched in 2000, the SSCP certification recently surpassed a global milestone of 10,000 individuals.
New SSCP Training Options
Available in the adaptive learning format for the first time, the Online Self-Paced Training for the SSCP leverages AI to guide learners along pathways tailored to their individual needs based on prior knowledge, learning speed and confidence levels. ISC2 offers both 180-day and 90-day access to the course at different price points, providing a lower price for those looking to complete the training within three months.
The SSCP Boot Camp course material has also been updated to align with the new exam outline. Both full-time and part-time online instructor-led boot camps are available, to ensure students find the best approach for their schedule and preferred learning style.
