ISC2 is focused on building strategic partnerships, as part of our mission to create a safe and secure cyber world. One way we have been able to strengthen the workforce is by bringing together students – the future cyber workforce – with those already in the field. Last month, two ISC2 partners, Anglia Ruskin University and the ISC2 East of England Chapter, to host an Academic Partnership event at Mastercard’s offices in central London.

Coordinated by Alex Mortimer, Global Academics Partnerships Head at ISC2, and Neil Breden, CISSP, president of the ISC2 East of England Chapter, the event was a celebration of sorts, as we brought together university graduates who are earning ISC2 certifications, which will strengthen their position as jobseekers. The students were afforded the opportunity to present their research findings from recent assignments and network with industry professionals.

Speakers included Jon France, CISSP, Chief Information Security Officer at ISC2. Jon spoke on the latest trends in cybersecurity, and was followed by Neil and Dr. Erika Sanchez who presented more on the ISC2 partnership with Anglia Ruskin University. The keynote speaker was Anthony Benham Head of Cyber Security profession at the UK Home Office who provided his thoughts on developing future cybersecurity leaders and gave key insights to successful leadership in cybersecurity roles.

Managers, directors and owners of businesses in attendance were able to hear about the value of protecting their business from cyberattacks while graduating students present had the opportunity to meet with representatives from organisations to learn about joining the workforce.

“It was great to bring academics and industry together as we all have a common goal to help students get into the sector and protect businesses from cyberattacks,” said Alex Mortimer, ISC2 Global Academic Partnerships Head. “We heard the latest trends and thoughts on developing a robust cybersecurity workforce and it was great to generate awareness about cybersecurity in the community and connect with like-minded professionals whilst networking.”
