Showcased Project: Childcare's Information Security Education Pioneer in Korea

Mr. Kim has been working as an information security project manager for more than 10 years, and has past experience in virus analysis, and network as well as server security in the field of information security. Mr. Kim started working with the (ISC)2 Korea Chapter in 2006 and has been providing information and guidance to CISSPs, and potential CISSPs, as well as exam applicants. He received awards from the (ISC)² Korea Chapter in 2009 and 2014 for his work in the chapter. Mr. Kim has been working on the only information security project for children in Korea to provide information security education to as many children as possible. Mr. Kim will also be leading the information security education for disadvantaged people in Korea.

Ms. Kana Shinoda had various experiences in system administration, tech support, security research, and new business development when she worked for Proceed Inc., Turbolinux Japan Co., Ltd., and Neoteny Inc.. In 2005, she was asked to work for Black Hat to lead the Japan operation, and was in charge of it for four years. After that, she worked for APWG as a conference manager and as an Asia Liaison after 2008. In 2013, she founded an annual Security Conference named "CODE BLUE (http://codeblue.jp/) in Japan. Ms. Shinoda is now the owner of BLUE Inc. and she graduated from college in the U.S.A majoring in Computer Science.

Dr. Jin has worked in ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) since 1999 and shown his ability as a specialist in information security for 16 years. In particular, Dr. Jin has been leading R&D projects on the National PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) system, Internet identity management system, smart wallet and privacy enhancing technologies promoted by government to pave the way for online privacy protections and to ensure the security and work. In addition, Dr. Jin contributed to training and education for the information security human resources as a professor of the Department of information security at University of Science & Technology which aims to foster highly qualified R&D professionals in the field of new convergence technology through on-site R&D education distinguished from other R&D institutes.

Mr.Sugiura has over 10 years of software development experience in a software company (1985-1998). Mr. Sugiura also has a diverse background as a security professional. He worked as a manager at JPCERT/CC from 1998 to 2002, and has built strong relationships with other CSIRTs, and supported the founding of APCERT (Asian Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team). He has organized NTT-CERT and currently works for two CSIRTs, NTT-CERT and IL-CSIRT. NTT-CERT is the CSIRT for NTT Group, which is the largest telecommunication company in Japan. IL-CSIRT is NTT DATA Intellilink Corporation's internal CSIRT, which is a subsidiary of NTT DATA Group. He has almost 17 years of experience in IT security and CSIRTs. He was a founding member of Nippon CSIRT Association (NCA), the largest CSIRT community in Japan, and has been a steering committee member of NCA. He is also an Educational Committee member of FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) and has been in the FIRST community for 15 years. He is a guest researcher at Meiji University. He is studying CSIRT(s) from the perspective of social theory, social psychology, business administration and team building.

Showcased Project: Internet Banking and Mobile Banking Security Assessment

In his spare time outside of his regular job, Anan Sony tried all Internet and mobile banking applications in Thailand and found that the security level of each application was diverse. He started a formal assessment in February 2013 with the top eight online banks in Thailand. Then he reported the results to Bank of Thailand. He warned about this kind of attack at the Cyber Defense Initiative Conference 2013 and has shared information about information security awareness for online banking with the media and general public in Thailand. He compiled a security assessment checklist for Internet and mobile banking systems to which regulators can refer. Banks in Thailand can use his assessment checklist to improve the security of online banking in Thailand.

Showcased Project: Establishment of Bank CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) in Sri Lanka

Lal has a wealth of experience in the information security field and has been working in the banking industry for more than two decades. He initiated the establishment of the Computer Security Incident Response Team for the banking sector (Bank CSIRT) in Sri Lanka, which serves as a security governance body for its constituents (ensuring that a baseline security standard has been adopted by its subscribers). Lal persuaded the banks in Sri Lanka to embrace the idea of the Bank CSIRT project by making bank CEOs realize that it will help not only the banks, but will also enhance the information security posture of the nation as a whole.

Showcased Project: Contribution to Convergence Managed Threat Defense System for Korea Army Cyber Security (South Korea)

Korea National Defense launched a Data Center project which aimed to compose and centralize all IT systems, networks, and applications (except for warfare network) in South Korea. Hae-Sul Choi and his team members proposed the architecture of the 'Convergence Managed Threat Defense System (CMTDS)' with core technologies such as a correlation analysis engine, detection and analyzing data leakage engine and big data analyzing engine to meet all requirements proposed by the Korea National Defense. Since CMTDS plays a vital role in strengthening and enhancing cyber protection for the Korean Army, Choi consolidated consensus with all project members and Army members by emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity for Korean national defense as well as the architecture design of a managed threat defense. His project team creatively prepared an analyzing algorithm and method that composes information security data and physical security data in real time.

Showcased Project: DAEDALUS: Novel Alert System based on Large-scale Darknet Monitoring

DAEDALUS is a real-time alert system based on a large-scale darknet monitoring facility. A darknet is a set of unused IP addresses and its monitoring is an effective way to grasp malicious activities on the Internet. In contrast to the conventional method, wherein the packets received from the "outside" are observed, DAEDALUS employs a large-scale distributed darknet that consists of several organizations that mutually observe the malicious packets transmitted from the "inside" of the organizations. Since 2013, Dr. Inoue and his laboratory have started to deploy the DAEDALUS into the real world. In particular, they have begun providing DAEDALUS alerts to Japanese local governments as a free service (as of March 2014,115 organizations have joined). Moreover, they also started providing the DAEDALUS alerts to ASEAN countries as a part of the Japan-ASEAN Security Partnership (JASPER) initiated by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Community Service Star Project: Cyber Security Public Education Program

This project is a joint initiative among NELCERT(National Engineering Lab for Cyber Security Emergency Response Technology), CCF(China Computer Federation), and Beijing Chapter of Cloud Security Alliance. The objective of this initiative is to improve public awareness of cybersecurity and to foster public interest in cybersecurity research and innovation. It includes a series of seminars and development of courseware. Dr. Du is one of the major initiators and sponsors of this project. Leveraging his personal reputation and leadership, Dr. Du helped set up the project team, which consists of 10 high-profile experts from industry and academia. He provided guidance and was deeply involved in the planning, development, and delivery.

Mr. Khawaja Faisal Javed has been working as manager of operations & ICT products for SGS Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited (a Subsidiary of SGS S.A. based in Switzerland) since 1999. Responsible for controlling the day-to-day activities related to overall auditing and training operations in systems and services certification in Pakistan. And in addition, he is handling the management, execution, and development of auditors and trainers in the ICT products (ISO27K, ISO20K and BS25999) division in Pakistan & other GCC countries. Previously, he served multinational and national organizations in the field of ICT, financial derivative online trading, as well as training and consultancy. Mr. Khawaja possesses vast and extensive experience based on over twenty years in IT GRC, information security management systems, IS auditing/training/coaching/consultancy, IT service delivery/support, IT infrastructure, BCP/DRP, system analysis and design, and business process re-engineering (BPR). He has immense experience in designing, developing, and delivering training courses, including approximately 4,500 hours of training and around 700 third-party certification audits in nearly 30 countries worldwide. He is one of the first in Pakistan to achieve IRCA, UK registered Lead Auditor for ISO 27001 Information Security Management System in 2005 and is currently the only itSMF, UK approved ISO20000-IT Service management-Lead Auditor in Pakistan. He is the only IRCA, UK approved Lead Trainer in Pakistan, for conducting BS 25999 BCMS & ISO 20000 ITSMS and ISO 27001 ISMS. Information Security Integration in a Business Acquisition Environment

Chella Namasivayam (Shiva M) is the chief information officer and head of global IT infrastructure support for iGATE. He has over seventeen years of experience in the IT industry working for companies like Arthur Andersen, CMC, and Unicorp Industries. At iGATE, he is responsible for leading information security, IT infrastructure, business continuity and commercial functions. Shiva M earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic and telecommunication from the Thyagarajar College of Engineering in 1990. Creating awareness and spreading secure software development methodologies for the establishment of hacker resilience software 

Mr. Nipon Nachin has over thirteen years of Information Technology (IT) and training experience in systems engineering, data communication, and Internet and network security system consulting in both the public and private sectors in Thailand. He is recognized as one of the Thailand’s leading professionals in information security systems, with practical experience in delivering high-profile security solutions. Nipon has been accredited as a Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP®). He is the first Thailand IT master who passed the ITIL Expert both Managing Across the Lifecycle (MALC) and Capability Track. He is frequently invited as a certified instructor at the national organization and a number of well-known Thai firms. Moreover, he is a permanent lecturer for master’s degree students at Royal Police Cadet Academy and for bachelor’s degree students in Computer Security at the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University. In addition, Nipon helped and supported many national security agencies such as National Intelligence Agency, The Prime Minister’s Office, and Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in Computer Forensics. Furthermore, Nipon is considered a professional leader in Business Continuity Management (BCM). He engaged as a consultant for some of the critical infrastructure authorities in Thailand, such as Metropolitan Waterworks Authority and Provincial Electricity Authority. The methodology was applied to large domestic development projects, such as ThaiGov.go.th system-development projects of Thailand’s government, etc. As a result, organizations in Thailand both in the public and private sectors paid more attention to secure software development. After the implementation of such methodology, safety could be evaluated through a vulnerability assessment and penetration test before launching the system into a production environment.

About the Community Service Star 2012

Chuan Wei Hoo has nineteen years of IT experience, assuming various IT management roles in the financial and telecommunication sector in Asia. In addition to his regular job responsibilities, Chuan Wei has been serving the Singapore standards community for the last 10 years as a volunteer and is currently a member of the Security & Privacy Standards Technical Committee (SPSTC), researching and reviewing ISO working papers for network and application security. Since 2010, he has also served as an adjunct lecturer with the Institute of Systems Science (ISS) - National University of Singapore (NUS) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP), as well as a guest lecturer with the BCM Institute. He is regarded as a subject matter expert in security operations, information security management, forensic investigation, and BCM. He also participates at industry and (ISC)2 events as a volunteer speaker, promoting the importance of certification.

Project: Singapore National Authentication Framework

The National Authentication Framework is a national program to roll out a universal second factor authentication device that can support all online transactions in Singapore. It is designed to be as secured as banks second-factor authentication (2FA) system. Chuan Wei, as the security architect, was instrumental in the all the security assurance of the NAF implementation by the System Integrator. The implementation of the NAF nationwide is challenging, as there are many different competing technologies and security requirements across all the industry sectors. Chuan Wei has pragmatically approached security and threats to ensure that the outcome of the system is appropriate to the objective of providing the means for the citizens to conduct secure and convenient online transactions. From this project, he re-confirmed that strong authentication mechanism in the cyberspaceis key to ensure e-identity. In addition to his regular job responsibility, Chuan Wei Hoo has been serving the Singapore standards community for the last 10 years as a volunteer and is currently a member of the Security & Privacy Standards Technical Committee (SPSTC).

With over twenty years of experience, he is an expert in PKI infrastructure and applications, cryptography researches, security protocols and deployment of security devices. Academically, CY holds six patents and 11 technical publications in international/domestic conferences and journals in the areas of cryptography and information security. Ms. Choi is the Vice President of Infothe Co., Ltd., Korea’s first media group specializing in security. She has contributed to development of the industry by publishing security magazines like the monthly Security World, Information Security 21C, and the Security World International (English-based). Also, as the Editor-in-Chief of the security-specific Internet news site www.boannews.com, she has stressed the importance and necessity of security, raised public awareness of security, and established security culture in Korea. In addition, Choi has established the Korea Association of Chief Security Officers and served as Executive Director. She has succeeded in promoting the Association’s status from a voluntary group to an incorporated association managed by a government department, and developed the ‘Excellent CSO Award’. Choi has emphasized the roles and necessities of corporate and organizational security practitioners, while raising the status of domestic security experts. She has published the yearly Information Security Practice Guidelines since 2001 and offered it for free to help security practitioners in public and private entities put the guidelines into practice. These Guidelines have been favorably spoken of by security practitioners. Choi graduated from the Mechatronics Department of Korea Polytechnic University. Mr. Mohd Zabri Adil is a Specialist and Head of the Digital Forensics Department at CyberSecurity Malaysia. He started his career as computer security lecturer at Kolej Poly-Tech MARA(formerly known as Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (KYPM). He then became a digital forensics analyst at the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER) (now known as CyberSecurity Malaysia). He has vast experience in handling computer crimes and computer-related forensic crime examination with various law enforcement agencies in Malaysia. He is also responsible for providing digital forensics training to national law enforcement officers, the deputy of public prosecutors, and judges. He graduated from University Technology of Malaysia, Skudai in Computer Science, majoring in Computer System.

Prof. Robert Deng has been with Singapore Management University since 2004, and is currently a professor, director of the SIS Research Center, and associate dean for the Faculty & Research in the School of Information Systems. Previously, he was principal scientist and manager of the infocomm security department at the Institute for Infocomm Research in Singapore.  He holds twenty-six patents and more than 230 technical publications in international conferences and journals in the areas of network and information security. He has served as general chair, program committee chair and member of numerous international conferences. He is an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, associate editor of Security and Communication Networks Journal (John Wiley), and member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Computer Science and Technology (the Science Press, China & Springer). Prof. Deng received his Bachelor’s degree from National University of Defense Technology, China, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, U.S.A. He received the University Outstanding Researcher Award from the National University of Singapore in 1999 and the Lee Kuan Yew Fellow for Research Excellence from Singapore Management University in 2006.

Dong Hoon Park established NICSTech – an information security firm – in 1995, when the concept of information security first emerged in South Korea. As the company’s CEO, he has been recognized as a pioneer in South Korea’s information security industry. 

Mr. Park received his Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in the U.S.A., with a major in Computer Science. He acquired his M.B.A. degree from George Washington University in the U.S.A. in 1988.

HyunCheol Jeong is a Director of the Security Technology Department in the Korea Information Security Agency (KISA) and is currently in charge of the development of information security technology (R&D), domestic and international standardization business, and the study and distribution of encryption technology. He is also in charge of standardizing the cyber security area in Korea by acting as Chair of the TTA (Telecommunications Technology Association, www.tta.or.kr) TC5 (Technical Committee 5, Security) PG503 (Project Group 503, Cyber Security). He is also a member of the Technical Council of the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC27 Korea Working Group and acts as Chair of the Security Working Group in the IPv6 Forum Korea. He obtained his B.A. degree in Computing Statistics from Seoul City University, and his M.A. degree in Computer Engineering from Kwangwoon University. He completed a doctor’s course for information security at Korea University. He also obtained his CISSP certification in December 2000, when the CISSP test was first carried out in Korea.
